Firstly, prepare the custard by adding warm milk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract together, whisk gently, and pour into a baking mold; then bake it in the oven using the Bain-Marie method.

To make custard pudding without eggs, replace them with custard powder, and keep the rest of the ingredients the same: vanilla extract, sugar, and milk.

Instead of an oven, a steamer can be used to make custard pudding, or a saucepan in which the pudding mixture is formed and then cooled down at room temperature for a while, after which it can be refrigerated and served.

A custard pudding requires whole milk, eggs, sugar and vanilla extract for a baked version, and milk, custard powder, sugar, vanilla extract for a non-baked version.

Homemade custard pudding lasts for around 2-4 days when kept refrigerated in an airtight container, while store-bought pudding lasts for approximately 5-7 days.

If you cook the custard at high temperatures, it has a risk of curdling the eggs present inside, making the consistency appear like scrambled eggs. And if you used custard powder instead, and the mixture wasn't cooked until it reached a boil, it would result in a runny pudding.

It is silky and soft, with a creamy and smooth texture, and it has different variations in different parts of the world, like Creme Caramel, Flan, Japanese Purin etc.

You can adopt a classic caramel custard pudding style, or you can top it off with fresh fruits, maybe give it a little hint of chocolate instead of caramel at the top, or add a nutty twist by mixing it with dry fruits and nuts.

Dark chocolate is the best type of chocolate for a custard pudding, as it brings an intense richness and balances the sweetness of the custard perfectly. It can be used in the topping of the custard pudding.
