Step 1: Preheat & Prepare

Set the oven to 350°F (175°C) for preheating. Preheating the oven is necessary for even baking. When you bake without preheating the oven, the brownies will not cook thoroughly and will result in uneven baking and longer baking time.

Prepare a 8x8 inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper or lightly greasing it with some oil or butter.

Step 2: Sift Dry Ingredients

Take a large mixing bowl and in it sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and some salt. Sifting will remove the lumps from the dry ingredients and make sure the brownies get a smooth and even texture.

Step 3: Mix Wet Ingredients

Take a different bowl and in it whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until it becomes glossy and combined. Now add eggs one at a time and beat well after adding each egg. Once all eggs are in, add vanilla extract and stir well.

Step 4: Combine & Customize

Once the wet ingredients are combined, it is time to add dry ingredients. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients into the wet mixture and mix it until it is just well combined and avoid overmixing. Now include the optional add-ins as per your friends preferences to make a customized and personalized treat.

Step 5: Bake

Bake

It is time to bake the brownies! Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it out evenly. Smoothen the top with the help of a spatula to create an even layer. Tap the filled pan on the table to remove air bubbles. Bake the brownies for 25–30 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center of the baked brownies, if it comes out with a few moist crumbs means brownies are cooked well. If wet batter comes out instead, leave the brownies for a few more minutes.

Step 6: Cool & Slice

After baking, take out the brownies and leave it at the room temperature for a few minutes. After the brownies are cooled down, cut them into squares or bars. If you slice the brownies before it is cooled down, the shape will get destroyed and crumble up.

Step 7: Serve

Serve the brownies with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Drizzle with chocolate sauce and serve warm. You can also cool the brownies down more and pack in cute gift boxes to give as a Friendship Day gift.
