Ricotta cheese is smooth and creamy, and brings a great, velvety texture to cakes. Made with milk, having a slightly sweet taste, it’s perfect for cakes that have more flavors going on. And what’s a better addition than chocolate? And we’re not just talking about adding in a simple bar of chocolate or melted chocolate chips. We’re talking about the delicious, nostalgic Bournvita powder. Adding that to a ricotta cake is going to bring out both flavors strongly, in a unique symphony that your taste buds are sure to enjoy.

There are several reasons adding Bournvitta to a lemon ricotta cake is a good idea. For one, Bournvita has a stronger flavor than cocoa powder, making the cake richer and giving it a more intense taste. The Bournvita also brings out the depth of the lemon flavor better. And of course, you can tweak the amount of Bournvita you add depending on the taste you want. The ricotta, on the other hand, keeps the cake moist and fluffy. Together, they’re a combination that ensures success.

A lemon ricotta cake with Bournvita infusion doesn’t just have to mean adding Bournvita to the batter though, although that’s a good idea. Here, we outline a list of ways in which you can add Bournvita to a lemon ricotta cake.

1. Infuse Bournvita directly into the cake batter

A no brainer, really. This is the easiest way to add Bournvita to your cake. Mix it directly into the batter, mix it well so that there are no lumps, and pop it in the oven. Here’s what you need:

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ cup Bournvita powder
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F or 175C. Grease a cake pan and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, add the flour, Bournvita, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix it well, ensuring no lumps. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the ricotta, sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Now, slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing as you do. After each spoonful of dry ingredients, mix it well, then add some of the milk, then more of the dry ingredients, and so on. Keep mixing till the batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for about 35 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
  6. Serve and enjoy.

Tip: To really bring out the flavor of the Bournvita, add some Bournvita to warm milk and add that milk to the batter instead of the plain milk. You’ll have a stronger, more intense taste.

2. Create a Bournvita swirl

Another way of adding Bournvita to your lemon ricotta cake is by creating a swirl, which will have a marbled effect, and make the cake visually appealing. It’s also incredibly simple to do.

Method:

  1. First, prepare the ricotta cake batter as usual.
  2. Separate ⅓ of the cake batter into another bowl and add 3 tbsp of Bournvita and 2 tbsp of warm milk to it. Mix it well.
  3. Now pour the plain batter into the pan first. Then, gently drop the Bournvita batter on top. Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the two batters together. Don’t mix them in and don’t try to push the Bournvita batter down. Just gently create swirls.
  4. Bake as usual and you’ll have a rather pretty looking cake in your hands.

Tip: You can add some chopped dark chocolate into the swirled batter for more gooey bites throughout.

3. Create a Bournvita syrup

  • ¼ cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp Bournvita powder
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup

Method:

  1. Mix Bournvita into the warm milk until it is fully dissolved.
  2. Now stir in the honey or maple syrup for a hint of added sweetness.
  3. Once the cake is out of the oven and still warm, brush the syrup over the top and let the cake soak it in.
