Step 1. Preheat & Prep:

Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Preheating the oven ensures even baking. Line a square or rectangular baking pan with parchment paper.

Step 2. Make the Brownie Batter:

Melt chocolate and butter together. You can melt using the microwave or the double boiler method as per your convenience. Once chocolate is melted, stir in sugar, then add egg and vanilla. Fold in all the dry ingredients like flour, cocoa powder, and salt until smooth. Now spread this prepared brownie layer into the prepared pan.

Step 3. Make the Cookie Dough:

Take a large mixing bowl and combine softened butter with brown sugar and white sugar. Beat it until the ingredients become creamy and well combined. Add egg yolk and vanilla, then mix well. After that, add flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix to form a cookie dough. The dough should not be stiff, it should be a little sticky and well hydrated. Once the dough is mixed properly, fold in chocolate chips.

Step 4. Assemble & Bake:

Assemble & Bake

Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie layer. Spread the cookie dough evenly over the brownie surface. You can also do this in reverse to make a cookie layer below the brownie layer for a change. Alternatively, you can cook both brownies and cookies separately then assemble it later for serving.

After adding cookie dough on top. Make a swirl using a toothpick to create a marble effect. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs and not wet batter.

Step 5. Cool & Serve:

Let it cool completely before cutting into bars. Serve with a scoop of ice cream!

Tips:

  1. For a crunchier top, sprinkle some sea salt before baking.
  2. If you want a gluten-free version, use oat flour or almond flour in both layers.
