Servings
For the Recipe
- 1 / 3 cup chopped Cadbury Bournville Dark Chocolate
- 1 small packs Cadbury Gems
- ½ cup Basmati Rice (uncooked)
- 2 tbsp Ghee
- 1 / 2 cup Sugar
- 1 cup Water
- ½ cup Cashews & Nuts
- 1 small piece Cinnamon Stick
- 4–5 pieces Black Peppercorns
- 3–4 pieces Cloves
- 3 pods Green Cardamom
- 1 pinch Saffron (Kesar)
- 1 small pinch Salt
Directions

Wash and Soak the Rice: Wash the rice 2 to 3 times thoroughly with water. Fill with fresh water and let it soak for 20 minutes.

Temper Whole Spices: Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pot or pan. Add 1 small piece of cinnamon, a few black peppercorns, cloves, and 3 green cardamom pods. Let the whole spices crackle and infuse their aroma into the ghee.

Fry the nuts: Add cashews and any other dry fruits like almonds or raisins into the hot ghee. Stir-fry until they are well cooked and lightly golden.

Add Soaked Rice & Water: Drain the soaked rice and add it to the fried nuts/spices. Gently mix it with the dry fruits, then pour in 1.5 cups of water and stir well.

Add sugar & a tiny pinch of salt. Keep the heat on medium and stir well so the sugar dissolves completely into the mixture.

Cover the pot with a tight lid and cook on low-medium heat until the rice absorbs all the liquid and is fully cooked through.

Chop Cadbury Bournville chocolate & keep aside.

Once the rice is fully cooked, right after the rice is fully cooked and you turn off the heat, fluff the hot rice gently with a fork. Sprinkle half of the chopped Bournville over the hot rice and fold gently.

Transfer the Meetha chawal to a plate or bowl. Garnish with some Cadbury Gems, saffron & chopped almonds.
Keep your Gems in the refrigerator prior to prep. Cold Gems retain their crunch longer when scattered over warm rice!
