Habsi halwa is a rich and dense milk-based halwa, which is not exactly a pudding but more like a fudge. This dessert is prepared by curdling milk and cooking it down with flour, ghee, and sugar until it thickens into a luscious and glossy consistency. Habsi halwa is often flavored with mild flavorings like cardamom powder, and is garnished with nuts and dry fruits. It is commonly known for its deep color and intense flavor. Servings
For the Recipe
- 1 packet Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk
- 1 litre full fat milk
- 4 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 2 tsp ghee
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
- 1/3 cup chopped almonds
Directions

First, bring the milk to a boil in a heavy-bottomed pan. Once it comes to a full boil, turn off the heat and immediately add lemon juice to the milk to begin the curdling process.

Allow the milk to sit undisturbed for about 5 minutes. This resting time allows the milk to curdle completely, separating into curds and whey.

Once the milk has curdled, add the all-purpose flour directly into the curdled mixture. Stir well to ensure the flour is fully incorporated with the curds.

Add ghee to the mixture and cook for around 5 minutes. This step helps bring a rich, glossy texture to the halwa base.

Break the Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk chocolate into small pieces and add them to the pan. Cook for another 5–10 minutes, stirring continuously, until the chocolate melts completely and blends evenly into the mixture.

Add cardamom powder to the halwa for an aromatic and flavorful touch. Cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the spices to infuse well.

Now, add the chopped almonds to the mixture for a crunchy texture and nutty richness.

Mix everything thoroughly until all the ingredients are well combined and the mixture reaches a uniform consistency.

Grease a large glass tray or flat dish with a thin layer of ghee. Pour the cooked halwa mixture into the tray and press it down evenly with your fingers to form a flat slab. Allow it to cool completely. Once set, decorate as desired and serve.
Once the halwa has cooled down, it will firm up in texture, making it easy to slice and serve. You can either serve it in bowls or like barfi bites after freezing a little.
