For the Recipe
- Butter - 1/2 cup
- Powdered Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Vanilla Essence - 1/2 tsp
- Baking Soda - 1/2 tsp
- Maida (All-purpose flour) - 1 & 1/2 cups
- Edible colours (orange and green)
- Cadbury Bournville Chocolate - 1 bar
Directions

In a mixing bowl with softened butter, add powdered sugar.

Using an electric mixer or a whisk, beat the mixture until it turns pale, light, and fluffy. This step ensures a soft cookie texture.

Pour in the vanilla essence to the butter mixture and mix well until it is evenly incorporated into the creamed butter and sugar mixture.

Sift in the maida (all-purpose flour) and baking soda.

Mix gently and knead into a soft, pliable dough. Avoid over-kneading to keep the cookies tender.

Divide the dough into three equal portions - Colour one portion with orange food colouring. Colour another with green food colouring. Leave the third portion uncoloured (white).

Place each coloured dough portion between two sheets of parchment paper. Roll each into a flat, even rectangle (about 1/4 inch thick) using a rolling pin.

Using a sharp knife, cut each coloured dough into even strips of the same width.

Lay one orange strip, one white strip, and one green strip side by side, gently pressing them together to stick and resemble the Indian national flag. Use a square cookie cutter or a knife to cut the combined tri-colour slabs into square shapes.

Place the squares on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the cookies for 9-10 minutes. Keep an eye on them to ensure the colours don’t brown or blend. Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool completely on the baking tray or wire rack.

Break the Cadbury Bournville Chocolate into small pieces and place them in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20–30 second intervals, stirring each time, until smooth and fully melted. Alternatively, melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over simmering water (double boiler method).

Once the cookies are completely cool, dip one side of each square cookie into the melted chocolate. Place them back on a sheet of parchment paper and let them sit until the chocolate is set. Enjoy these vibrant, tri-coloured cookies with a hot cup of Coffee or gift them for Republic Day or Independence Day celebrations!
