Halloween Candy Cookie Bar

“Trick-or-Treat!!!” You hear a knock on your door. You open it and you see a cute kid clad in a spooky, scary Halloween costume standing there asking for candies. Yes, it is that time of the year when scary yet funny decorations, candies, and Halloween-themed spooky desserts fill up your backyard.

Over the years, candies have found prominence in modern Halloween celebrations with the rise of trick-or-treating, a Halloween staple ritual where children knock on neighbours’ doors and ask for chocolate treats. It ideally means that if you don’t give a treat, the children might play a mischievous trick. Although in today’s time, the ‘trick’ is nothing but an idle threat. This practice originally evolved from the tradition of ‘souling’, a medieval practice in which poor people would go door-to-door on All Souls' Day, seeking food (soul cakes) in exchange for praying for the family's deceased members.

Halloween ideally is the only time of the year when no amount of candies is considered too many candies. Now, apart from eating them as they are, what do you do with so many of them? When there is an abundance of candies, why not make some Halloween candy cookie bars with them?

These Halloween candy cookie bars, an ideal fall dessert, are made by just chopping your favorite candies and mixing them into a chewy, buttery batter, which is then topped with chopped-up leftover Halloween candy. These Halloween candy cookie bars are a clever and useful way to use up excess Halloween candies. With the Halloween season just around the corner, here we have an easy recipe of Halloween candy cookie bars for you to try at home. Let’s jump in!

Step 1:

Start by pre-heating the oven to 180 °C. Also, keep a baking pan ready by lining it with parchment paper on all sides, and keep it aside.

Step 2:

Take a large mixing bowl. Take melted butter and brown sugar in it and keep whisking until combined. Also, add the egg, extra egg yolk, and vanilla, and mix them well until combined.

Step 3:

In a separate mixing bowl, add the flour, baking powder, and salt and mix them well. Add the dry ingredients to the egg, butter, and sugar mixture. Using a spatula, give all of them a good mix.

Step 4:

Now is the time to gently fold in the chopped up Halloween candy, mixing only until combined.

Step 5:

Now, scrape the batter into the prepared pan and even the top using a spatula.

Step 6:

Allow the batter to bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are set and the batter turns golden brown.

Step 7:

Once it is out of the oven, place the baking pan on a cooling rack and allow the baked cookie bar batter to cool completely in the pan. Once it cools down, slice it into bars and share with your loved ones.
