Making modak on Ganesh Chaturthi is a sacred tradition, as these sweet dumplings are Lord Ganesha's favorite offering. Servings
For the Recipe
- 8 pieces of Cadbury Bournville Dark Chocolate
- Mawa (1 cup)
- Powdered Sugar (¼ cup)
- Ghee (2 tsp)
- Golden edible vark 3 inch ( optional)
Directions

Heat a non-stick pan on low heat, add 1 teaspoon of ghee, and add the crumbled mawa. Sauté continuously for 2 to 3 minutes until it softens and melts evenly.

Add the powdered sugar to the melted mawa and mix thoroughly until well combined.

Immediately add the Bournville dark chocolate into the warm pan.

Stir non-stop on low heat for another 4 to 5 minutes. The mixture will thicken up, start leaving the sides of the pan, and come together as a soft, pliable dough-like mass. Turn off the heat.

Transfer the mixture to a plate and let it cool down until it is just warm enough to handle comfortably (about 5 minutes).

Lightly grease a modak mold with a bit of ghee. Pinch a small portion of the warm chocolate mawa mixture, roll it into a smooth ball, and press it tightly into the closed mold.

Carefully open the mold to release the shaped modak. Repeat the process for the remaining mixture.

Let the modaks air-dry at room temperature for about 10–15 minutes to firm up before serving or storing. Garnish with some golden edible vark & serve.
Keep the modaks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate them for up to a week. Bring them to room temperature before serving so the chocolate mawa softens.
