For the Recipe
- 10 pieces of Dairy Milk chocolate
- 2 cups makhana
- 2 cups milk
- ¼ cup dry fruits
- 8-9 pieces of saffron strands
- ¼ cup ghee
- ¼ tsp chopped pistachio
Flavor Combinations
In this Dairy Milk Makhana Kheer recipe, the traditional kheer recipe gets its creaminess from roasted makhanas instead of rice or semolina. And the perfect modern fusion flavor comes from Cadbury Dairy Milk. Together, they create the delicious velvety kheer that has the benefits of makhana and the indulgence of chocolate. Although Cadbury Dairy Milk rules the flavor profile here, the saffron strands, ghee, and milk still keep the traditional touch alive. And in the end, the chopped nuts write the classic crunchy ending to it.
How To Make

Dry roast makhana with ghee. Shallow-fry them until they turn crunchy. Crush and put aside 2 teaspoons of makhana separately.

Now add milk to the makhana. Keep the heat on medium to low and stir at intervals to prevent the milk from sticking to the bottom.

Next, add dry fruits and let them cook for a few minutes.

Add saffron milk for a rich flavor.

Now add Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate and keep stirring until the chocolate melts. Cook for 1 minute.

Now, add crushed makhanas to the chocolate kheer. Cook for another 1 minute or until creamy.

Transfer the kheer in a bowl, decorate with some chopped pistachio. Enjoy.
You can skip saffron and only make the kheer with cardamom.
Tips And Tricks
For that perfect creamy, sweet kheer, it is essential to use a makhana powder that is dry-roasted or ghee-roasted until crisp and then pulsed in a blender until powdery.
It is also essential to simmer the makhana powder in full-fat milk over low heat. Make sure the Cadbury Dairy Milk is melted well and there are no lumps in it.
To swap the standard ingredients with alternatives based on dietary preferences, one may opt for plant-based milk instead of the dairy counterparts. To enhance the thickness of the kheer, you can also add some soaked cashews, almond powder, or a few mashed bananas.
