Servings
For the filling:
- Apples peeled and chopped – 1 Cup
- Lemon juice – 2 teaspoons
- Granulated sugar – 1 teaspoon
- Cornstarch – 1 ½ teaspoon
- Ground cinnamon – ¼ teaspoon
For the crumble:
- Unsalted butter softened – 2 tablespoons
- Brown sugar – 2 tablespoons
- Vanilla extract – ½ teaspoon
- Flour – ¼ cup
- Ground cinnamon – ¼ teaspoon
- Salt – 1/8 teaspoon
- Oats – 2 tablespoons
- Cadbury Chocolate chopped – ¼ cup
Directions

In a large bowl mix the apples, lemon juice, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon.

Divide the mixture into two 225 ml ramekins and bake for 10 minutes in preheated oven at 190 degrees Celsius.

While it is baking, beat together the butter, brown sugar, and vanilla until smooth, then add the flour, cinnamon, salt, and oats and beat until just incorporated. Add the chocolate chips. The mixture will be crumbly.

Top the cooked apples with the crumble mixture and smooth it out as much as possible. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 15 minutes before serving warm.
Avoid overmixing: To keep the topping crumbly, avoid overmixing to make a solid dough. It is ideal to keep the mixture lumpy and not like superfine breadcrumbs.
Cut the apple into the same-sized pieces: It is ideal to slice the apple into uniform ½ inch chunks. This is important to ensure even cooking.
Let the apple crumble rest: Once the apple crumble is baked and out of the oven,
Allow it to rest 15-30 minutes to let the fruit juices thicken. This prevents the base from getting soggy.
Filled with juicy, spicy apple filling and topped with a crumbly coat, this dessert is always best served with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or custard. The warmth of crumble blends perfectly with the cold of ice cream.
Alternatively, it can be served with a slightly warm drizzle of caramel sauce and some melted Cadbury chocolate on top as well.
Make-ahead option: This simple Cadbury cookie crumble dessert can always be made ahead. One may assemble it unbaked and refrigerate it for baking later. Alternatively, it can be baked and then refrigerated for later use.
Storage method: Refrigeration is the best method to store them for up to 4-5 days. Before placing it in the refrigerator, make sure the dessert is all covered.
Reheating: It is always recommended to reheat the apple crumb in the oven or toaster to restore the crispiness. The microwave often turns them soggy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bake this in one large dish instead of ramekins?
Yes, apple crumble can be baked in a 9x13-inch baking dish. One may also use an oven-safe casserole dish. Make sure the baking time is adjusted accordingly.
Do I have to peel the apples?
While peeling generally creates a smooth and soft texture, it is not always necessary. Leaving the skin also adds a rustic texture to the dish.
Can I use canned apple pie filling?
While canned apple pie filling is a convenient shortcut method, it is always better to use the homemade apple filling for a better texture.
