Tiramisu

Tiramisu

Tiramisu is an Italian dessert containing coffee-dipped ladyfingers, layering them with a creamy mascarpone filling. Sometimes, it can also include chocolate or fruits. Don't soak the biscuits for a long time.

The traditional recipes contain coffee liqueur such as Marsala wine, Kahlúa or rum, yet most homemade recipes are completely alcohol-free. Check your recipe before giving it to kids or people with specific diet requirements.

Soak the ladyfingers in coffee and layer them with a creamy mascarpone filling and again do this several times and keep chilled for hours. Dust it with cocoa powder before serving. Do not soak biscuits for too long or else they will become mushy.

Tiramisu cake combines all the flavors of tiramisu together in soft sponge cake with mascarpone filling, coffee and cocoa powder. Some recipes can include chocolate layers. Don't put too much coffee, otherwise, it will cover all the other ingredients' taste.

Make the mascarpone filling from the whipped cream, mascarpone, sugar, and vanilla. Layer it with soaked in coffee ladyfingers and refrigerate before serving. Be careful not to over-whip the cream because it becomes grainy.

For the traditional recipes, you should use Marsala wine, while for others you can use Kahlúa, dark rum, brandy, or coffee liqueur. You can leave out alcohol completely. Don't put too much alcohol, otherwise, it can overshadow the coffee taste.

Add some cocoa powder on top and add some grated chocolate, chocolate shavings, coffee beans or some sprinkled chopped nuts. Don't add too much sweet toppings to cove up the coffee taste.

High-quality dark or semi-sweet chocolate pairs well with the mascarpone filling and coffee. If you use milk chocolate, the result will be sweeter. Low-quality chocolate with artificial flavors is not recommended.

Use couverture, dark, or semi-sweet chocolate because they melt evenly and create a silky cream. Chop the chocolate before melting. Avoid overheating it, as it may become grainy or seize.

Dark or semi-sweet Dairy Milk chocolates pair beautifully with coffee-flavored sponge and mascarpone filling, adding richness without excessive sweetness. Milk chocolate also works. Avoid overly bitter chocolate, which can dominate the delicate flavors.
