Indulgent Black Forest Dump Cake with Silk Chocolate Swirls

Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 1 box of chocolate cake mix (choose a rich, moist mix for best results)
- 2 cans cherry pie filling (alternatively, use sweet/sour cherries as per preference)
- 1 stick unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup of heavy cream (for the chocolate swirls)
- 1 cup of Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk Chocolate, chopped
- 1 tsp vanilla extract, optional
For the Topping:
- 1 can whipped cream or whipped topping (for a light, fluffy finish)
For garnish:

- Chocolate shavings or grated chocolate
- A handful of cherries
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C to ensure it's hot and ready to bake the cake.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish lightly with butter. Set aside. This recipe doesn’t need the parchment paper, as the cake mix itself will create a moist and sticky layer.
- Pour the cherry pie filling evenly into the bottom of the prepared dish. This will form the base layer for your cake, forming the foundational flavor of the entire cake.
- Sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix evenly over the cherry pie filling. Make sure the cake mix covers the cherries completely, but do not stir or mix it in – this will keep the layers distinct and create that "dump cake" effect. Tip: Some cake mix brands might have large clumps of dry mix; gently tap the dish to settle it evenly, ensuring no dry patches.
- Place the cubed slices of unsalted butter evenly over the top of the dry cake mix. The butter will melt as the cake bakes, creating a rich, moist topping and adding flavor.
- Place the dish in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes. It’s done when the top is golden brown, with a toothpick inserted into the center coming out clean, with just a few moist crumbs.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the chocolate swirls. For that, take a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Do not let it boil.
- Add the chopped Cadbury Silk Chocolate and stir until they are fully melted and smooth. This will create a rich, silky chocolate sauce.
- Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla extract for extra flavor if you’d like. Let the chocolate sauce cool slightly while the cake finishes baking.
- Once the cake has finished baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. You should see the cake pull away from the edges, and cherries bubbling.
- Drizzle the Silk chocolate sauce in swirls over the top of the cake, either by using a spoon or a squeezable bottle to make patterns, or just drizzle it casually if you don’t care for creativity.
- After the cake has cooled slightly and the chocolate swirls are in place, top the cake with a generous amount of whipped cream or whipped topping. Spread it evenly to cover the cake or dollop it on in spoonfuls.
- The cake is ready to serve. To make it more extravagant, you can garnish the cake with chocolate shavings or grated chocolate on top. You can also add a few whole cherries to this dupe dump cake to mimic the OG Black Forest Cake.
- Serve warm or at room temperature with an extra drizzle of the silk chocolate sauce.
Extra Flavor Enhancers:

- You can use a chocolate fudge cake mix or devil’s food cake mix instead of a regular chocolate cake mix.
- Add a handful of chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios or walnuts) on top before baking.
- Turn it into a dark chocolate cake, by swapping Silk Chocolate with Cadbury Bournville Dark Chocolate for the swirl
- Sprinkle some cocoa powder over the top of the cake before adding the butter slices.
- If you have time consider making the cherry filling at home, yourself by simmering fresh or frozen cherries with sugar, lemon juice, and a little cornstarch until you have a thick slurry.
