Servings
For the Recipe
- Mawa / Khoya - 1 cup
- Powdered sugar - ½ cup
- Ghee - 1 tsp
- Cardamom powder - ½ tsp
- Toblerone White Chocolate - 1 pack (use as required)
- Cocoa Powder - 1 tsp
- Fresh cream - 1 tsp
- Golden / silver varq (for garnishing)
- Almonds (sliced) - as required
Directions

Add the crumbled mawa to a non-stick pan and place it over low to medium heat.

Add the powdered sugar and milk powder, stirring gently until everything is well combined and smooth.

Cook over low to medium heat for 3–4 minutes, stirring continuously, until the mixture comes together into a soft, smooth dough. If it feels too dry, add a little milk at a time carefully. The mixture should remain soft and pliable, and not sticky.

Add the cardamom powder and cocoa powder, and mix well, allowing their warm, aromatic flavors to blend beautifully into the mawa mixture.

Transfer the mixture to a plate and allow it to cool completely to room temperature, making it easier to handle.

Take a small portion of the mixture and gently roll it into a smooth laddu. Lightly flatten it, then pinch one side into a sharp point to create a beautiful diya-inspired shape.

Repeat with the remaining mixture until all the diyas are shaped and ready.

Arrange the mawa-cocoa diyas on a plate. For an elegant festive touch, gently adorn them with a little silver or golden varq. Refrigerate for about 15 minutes, or until the diyas are nicely set.

Place the chopped White Toblerone Chocolate in a heatproof bowl and microwave for about 1 minute, stirring in between, until smooth and glossy. Alternatively, melt it gently over a double boiler. Add a tiny amount of ghee for an extra glossy finish, if desired.

Add a few saffron strands and a little fresh cream to the melted chocolate, giving it a beautiful ghee-like color while keeping the filling soft and creamy once set.

Allow the saffron to infuse into the chocolate, transforming it into a warm, golden kesari hue that beautifully resembles the rich, glossy ghee traditionally seen inside a diya.

Gently pipe or spoon the saffron-infused chocolate into the center of each mawa-cocoa diya, creating a beautiful ghee-filled effect and bringing the festive diya to life.

Place a thinly sliced almond at the pointed tip of each diya to create a delicate flame and complete the festive look.

Arrange the Chocolate Diya-Batis beautifully on a serving platter and celebrate Diwali with these gorgeous, festive little treats. It is a sweet tribute to the warmth and glow of the festival of lights.
