Vegan Vanilla Custard For An Egg & Dairy-Free Dessert

Introduction

Make this creamy, delicious, and completely vegan vanilla custard at home this holiday season. It is a perfect treat for vegans, as it doesn't contain eggs or any dairy products while being the ultimate comfort dessert experience. The best part? It is extremely easy to make and comes together quickly. Here's the recipe for you:

Ingredients

50 g granulated sugar
3 tsp. vanilla extract
200 ml of non-dairy cream
300 ml of non-dairy milk (prefer unsweetened soy for the best results)
25 g corn flour
Optional: a pinch of turmeric

Make Paste

In a saucepan, combine the cornflour and 3 tablespoons of the milk, stirring to produce a smooth paste before gradually adding the remaining milk.

Add Cream

Whisk in the cream, sugar, vanilla, and, if using, a pinch of turmeric.

Heat Up

Place the pan over medium-low heat and whisk regularly until the custard thickens and comes to a simmer.

Serve

Remove the pan from the heat and serve immediately. To taste, add extra vanilla and sugar.

Store

Pour the custard into a bowl and cover with greaseproof paper or clingfilm directly on the surface if not serving immediately to avoid skin from forming.
