You can make a terrific snack using yogurt. Try these sweet yogurt fritters for a soft, pillowy and nutritious snack!
While the fritters are still warm, dust them generously with powdered sugar. Powdered sugar is ideal for topping these fritters; if possible sprinkle them on with a sieve
Arrange the sweet yogurt fritters on a serving platter and serve at least two kinds of dips with it; ideally a chocolate dip with a sweet, seasonal option like cranberry, maple or strawberry based-dips
1 cup plain yogurt
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying
Powdered Sugar
In a mixing bowl, mix yogurt, all-purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and vanilla extract. Blend until you have a smooth batter. Avoid adding any solid seasonal agents in this batter
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Make sure the oil is hot enough for frying (around 350°F or 175°C) but not sizzling yet
Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry the fritters until they are golden brown, turning them occasionally for even cooking. Each fritter should need about a minute and a half for each side
Once the fritters are golden and cooked through, remove them from the oil and place the fritters on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Greasiness may not be ideal for sweet fritters
