200 g stale bread (cubed)
400 ml milk
100 ml cream
150 g dark chocolate (chopped)
75 g sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
50 g chocolate chips or nuts(optional, for topping)
Warm the milk, cream, and sugar in a pot. Take off the heat, then toss in the chopped chocolate until it melts.
Whisk together the eggs and vanilla, then gradually whisk in the chocolate mixture.
Put the bread cubes in a baking dish that has been oiled, cover with the chocolate custard, and leave to soak for ten minutes.
After adding chocolate chips or nuts, bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 180°C, or until firm. Savor it warm with a dollop of cream or a scoop of ice cream.
