We all ask our Bihari friends for thekua during the festival of Chhath Puja. It is a timeless sweet treat that has a delicious taste.
This appealing sweet cum snack is made with wheat flour, jaggery (or sugar), raisin, fennel seeds, coconut flakes and cardamom.
Also known as Khahuriya, Tikari and Thokni, it is an Indo-Nepalese snack that is believed to have originated in Bihar.
Though it is a round-the-year treat, thekua is traditionally prepared as a prasad in the Chhath Puja that falls ten days after Diwali.
It is commonly relished in Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and the Madesh of Nepal.
