1 1/2 cups pitted dates
1 1/4 cups boiling water
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup heavy cream
Add baking soda to boiling water and soak in dates for 10 minutes.
Preheat oven to 175°C and grease a baking dish. Cream butter and brown sugar then add eggs and beat. Stir in vanilla and sift in flour and baking powder.
Pour batter into greased dish and bake for 35-40 minutes.
Combine butter, brown sugar, and heavy cream in a saucepan and heat it up to make a thick sauce. Use it to glaze the pudding.
