Moms tend to be taken for granted, despite our good intentions and the kind of society we live in. But luckily there exists a special day where we celebrate everything maternal and make this day special for that extraordinary woman in our life. So, for this special day, we have some Mother's Day cupcake and cake ideas that you could try to bring a smile to your mom’s face. These ideas are creative as they are fun to try if you like working with buttercream and love indulging in creative exercises.

Floral Bouquet Cupcakes

What’s better than an actual flower bouquet? Why, of course, something that resembles it – of course, we are talking about floral cupcakes! Not just one, but a bunch of them arranged into a bouquet – if that sounds fascinating to you, then we have just the thing for you! Imagine a flowerpot that has a styrofoam sphere in it. Bake the cupcakes, and once they are cool, decorate their surfaces using a metal tip to weave flower patterns on them; go for petals and a center for starters. Practice a bit before going for the main deal for the special occasion. Once all the cupcakes are decorated poke toothpicks into the styrofoam ball and push the cupcakes into it. Decorate the pot with colored tissue paper for that bouquet effect and surprise your mom!

No-Bake Icebox Cake

Baked cakes are the best, and there’s is nothing more heartwarming and olfactory tingling like baking a cake for your loved ones for any occasion. But not every Indian home has an oven, so as Mother’s Day falls in May, a chilled cake, the likes of an icebox cake is the call of the hour. An icebox is like the normal cake but instead of cake sponges it uses wafers or biscuits and a lot of whipped cream and a lot of toppings that is quite easy to assemble. So, this Mother’s Day, grab a bunch of Oreo cookies, whipped cream, sour cream and the likes with your choice of toppings and craft a fridge cake that can be shared with the entire family. The best part about this no-bake cake is that it stays well for several days and your mom and the family can enjoy it over several days without feeling much too guilty about the calories.

Different-Shaped Mini Cakes

Go small with a baked cake at home or buy a real one, a bigger one and cut it into shapes of your choice, like hearts or stars to remind your mom of your love for her or of the star she is. Just buy a plain, cream less cake and use your own buttercream frosting at home to slather the cake. We would recommend pink or red for heart-shaped cake, and yellow for the star-shaped cake. You can go further ahead and add sprinkles to the top of your cakes or turn the heart-shaped cake into a red velvet one with whipped cream and red velvet crumbs. Handmade goodies always trump store bought ones, and in this case, the DIY makeover you have given to a plain storebought cake. The best part is you don’t even need an oven for this. Just some tools and the internet and you are set!

Word or Animal Cupcakes

These are direct, very on the face, all you need to do is buy or bake a bunch of cupcakes and decorate them at will. Pick your favorite buttercream preferably a lighter color and pipe a generous amount on each cupcake’s surface and then carefully press it buttercream side down on a piece of parchment paper. Your canvas is ready. All you need to do is decorate them at will, say spelling out, “the world’s best mother”, “you are a star”, “happy Mother’s Day” etcetera. Or you can go the fun route and go for fun animals and the traits associated with them, like as fierce as a lion, as smart as a fox and as tough as tiger and so on. You can also ditch the animal idea and go for something else entirely like piping a mountain of buttercream in different patterns and pushing in eyes, antlers or horns to create something fun that might amuse your mom and make her laugh.
