While the almonds are rich in heart-friendly monounsaturated fat, protein, fiber and bone-building minerals calcium and magnesium, dark chocolate and cocoa powders are also considered a rich source of antioxidants, minerals, iron, magnesium and copper.

Moreover, the cinnamon and cayenne, which are used for spicing it up, also include a dose of antioxidants. Cinnamon is also believed to help lower blood glucose.

The addition of pretzels often turns out to be helpful, as the combination of protein and fat (from the almonds) and carbs (from pretzels) is considered good for satiety and keeping blood sugar levels in control.

Spicy Chocolate Roasted Almonds: About The Ingredients

Raw almonds-

Raw whole almonds are most commonly used in this recipe owing to their super crunchy texture. However, a similar recipe could be prepared with walnut halves or peanuts as well.

Dark chocolate-

Finely grated dark chocolate is an integral part of the delicious snack as it melts into the roasted almonds and forms a delectable chocolate coating.

Cocoa powder-

Cocoa powder, prepared from ground cocoa beans, is known to enhance the rich, chocolate flavor in this recipe, alongside infusing a dash of bitter taste as it does not contain any sugar.

Egg white -

Raw

Egg whites are whisked until frothy with a little bit of water. This aids the chocolate and spices in sticking to the almonds.

Brown sugar -

Granulated brown sugar is used to add a little bit of crunch, while the molasses in the sugar is also known to enhance the flavor.

Cayenne and Cinnamon -

While Cayenne spices up the recipe, Cinnamon is known to add warmth to these chocolate roasted almonds.
