Orange Loaf with Bournville Drizzle: Step-by-step guide

Making Soft Orange Loaf

  1. Start with preheating the oven to 180°C. Next, prepare the loaf pan by greasing the bottom and sides of it and dusting with some flour.
  2. Now take a medium mixing bowl. Add the butter and sugar, and start beating the butter until softened. Both brown sugar and white sugar can be used in this recipe.
  3. Now add the orange zest to the butter-sugar mixture, and keep beating at low speed until they are creamed together.
  4. Now is the time to add two large eggs one by one and keep beating at medium speed until everything is combined, and the mixture turns pale and fluffy.
  5. Now take a separate mixing bowl for all the dry ingredients. Sift the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in that bowl.
  6. Now, divide the dry mixture into two parts. Add the first half of the dry mixture to the wet mix. Also, add the milk and beat until combined. Avoid overmixing.
  7. Mix the remaining dry mixture with the fresh orange juice. Using a whisk, keep mixing the ingredients until all the flour is mixed.
  8. Now combine both the mixtures and keep beating until the batter achieves a creamy and light consistency.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pans. Tap on a flat surface a couple of times, so that the air bubbles are removed.
  10. Put the loaf pan in the pre-heated oven and bake for 30-40 mins. You can always check the status by pausing it and inserting a toothpick at the center of the cake batter. If it comes out clean, baking is completed.
  11. Now allow the freshly baked orange loaf baked loaf to adjust to the room temperature. You can place it on a wire rack until warm and cover with a lightly moist tea towel to prevent the cake from losing its moisture.
  12. If you want, you can also pour some orange syrup on top of the cake and let it sit for a few hours before you plunge in.
