Parfaits are one of those healthy treats that everyone loves. The layered dish is healthy and feels indulgent, almost like youÕre eating a dessert. ItÕs like you're tricking yourself into being healthy. And this is something you can indulge in everyday, as a breakfast or snack option. ItÕs not just that itÕs delicious that makes it a good everyday choice. ItÕs also highly customizable. You can use any flavor of yogurt, any fruits and nuts for the layers in between, add granola, honey, biscuit crumbs, or anything else that you like. You are really only limited by your imagination. So here weÕre showing you how to make a berry yogurt parfait with Cadbury Dairy Milk shavings. It has berries, yogurt and chocolate. WeÕve also added granola to the recipe for a crunch. Give it a try, weÕre sure youÕll love it too.
The only thing to keep in mind with parfaits is that the presentation really matters. Because this is one of those dishes that you eat with your eyes before your mouth. So please be focused when adding each layer and try to be precise. But also keep in mind that the ingredients wonÕt form clean lines. ItÕs going to be more fluid in structure, and thatÕs fine.
Ingredients
Serves 2
- 1 cup Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla, your choice)
- _ cup mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries -- fresh or frozen)
- _ cup granola (choose one with a hint of cinnamon or coconut for flair)
- 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional, depending on your sweetness preference)
- 30 g Cadbury Dairy Milk (about half a bar, shaved into curls or thin pieces)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (if using plain yogurt)
- A sprig of mint (for garnish)
Method:
- If using fresh berries, wash and pat them dry. Slice the strawberries if they are too large. If using frozen fruits, thaw them at room temperature for a few minutes until theyÕre soft and juicy.
- Using a vegetable peeler or fine grater, shave the Cadbury Dairy Milk into thin curls. Grate gently and place a plate underneath to collect the shaved chocolate.
- If you are using plain yogurt, mix in the vanilla extract and honey or maple syrup. Stir until smooth and slightly sweetened. If youÕre using vanilla or some other yogurt flavor, you can either skip these additions or adjust their quantity depending on how sweet you want your parfait to be.
- Bring out a clear glass, dessert cup or even a wine glass to showcase the beautiful layers of the parfait. And if youÕre feeling extra fancy, go for a mason jar with a ribbon tied around it.
- Now itÕs time to build the parfait. Spend some time thinking about the presentation. With a parfait, the look matters. Start with 2 tablespoons of yogurt at the bottom of each glass. Smooth it out with the back of a spoon. Then sprinkle in a tablespoon of granola for crunch. Next, add a layer of mixed berries. Make sure you use different berries so itÕs a nice and colorful layer. Or you can use just one fruit and add another one for the next fruit layer. ItÕs your choice. Now gently scatter a teaspoon of Cadbury Dairy Milk shavings over the berries. Repeat the layers until your glass is nearly full, ending with a dollop of yogurt and more chocolate curls. Top it all off with a sprig of mint or even an extra berry or two.
Tips:
- When creating the layers, do not pack each layer too rightly. ItÕs supposed to look a bit messy and as though each layer is merging into the other. Lean into the ambiguity of the layers.
- Make sure the yogurt you're using is chilled. This will make the structure better and itÕs also more refreshing to eat.
- If youÕre making it ahead and storing it, skip the granola. If it stays in contact with the yogurt for too long, it will become soggy. You can sprinkle it on top later, just when youÕre about to serve.
- You can also use fruits like mango, pineapple or any other fruit thatÕs in season. YouÕre only limited by your creativity -- and by whatÕs seasonally available.
- Add some toasted coconut bits for an added crunch or as a replacement to the granola.
- Along with the Dairy Milk shavings, you can also add white chocolate shavings for a nice contrast.
- You can add chopped nuts like almonds or pistachios between layers for more of a crunch and for a more rounded parfait.
- If you really want to lean into the chocolatey flavor, you can add cocoa powder to your yogurt and use that.
