Ingredients:
- 2 cups unsweetened almond milk (homemade or store-bought)
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2–3 tbsp maple syrup or honey (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp cinnamon powder
- ⅛ tsp ground nutmeg
- Pinch of ground cardamom
- Small pinch of sea salt
- ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
Method:
- Heat up almond milk in a small saucepan on medium to low heat until it is not but not boiling.
- Turn off the heat as soon as the milk turns hot. Since it is almond milk, boiling it can ruin the texture and burn the milk quickly.
- Take a small mixing bowl and mic cocoa powder with 2 to 3 tablespoons of warm almond milk. Mix it to make a smooth paste which is thick and yet smooth. Stir it well to prevent the formation of lumps. Add this paste to the hot milk pan. Mix the cocoa well then add cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder, and ground cardamom. Add salt then whisk everything well until combined. You can alter the amount of cocoa powder as your taste. If you like a more dark flavor, you can also add melted dark chocolate to it.
- Once the ingredients are mixed, it is time to sweeten the beverage. Stir in maple syrup or honey depending on your taste. Honey gives a richer flavor and maple syrup gives a light flavor. If you want to keep the recipe vegan, use maple syrup instead of honey. Add vanilla extract and adjust the sweetness to your taste.
- Pour the spiced chocolate milk with almond essence into mugs and top it off with chocolate drizzle, a dollop of whipped cream or some dusting of cinnamon powder for extra warming flavor. You can also create swirls using frothed almond milk. There are many ways in which you can make this beverage eyepleasing and cozy.
Tips To Get The Best Flavor For Spiced Chocolate Milk With Almond Essence:
Lightly toast spices in the dry saucepan for 20 to 30 seconds before adding almond milk. This will help in creating an aroma for the spices and enhance their flavor even more. You can skip this if you are using premade spice powders.
Use high-quality cocoa powder for a richer, smoother chocolate taste.
